THE STAND UP SCIENCE CLASSROOM

The Term 'stand up' science, to me, represents an obligation to 'stand up' and make a difference for my family, students, the community and as a citizen.

My passion is teaching science. I emphasize, within my science classroom, the skills and love of learning science through understanding the process. I feel strongly that i have an obligation to get things done beyond the classroom as well. An example is creating and serving as the director of the University of Missouri High School Science, Mathematics, and Technology Institute for over a decade in the 90's. Another is creating and serving as the Executive Edition and Publisher of the Inter ACTION newsletter sent to every K-12 throughout Kansas and Missouri in the 80's. A third would be my contributions to the Missouri Division of the American Association of University Women as the Raytown Branch president, State Politics of Food Chair, and Vice-president in the 70's.

The term 'stand up' also reflects an attempt to bring humor into my science classroom. After forty years of teaching science and being involved beyond the classroom, I am still enjoying the profession. In turn, I hope the students are having fun while learning and hope this will become lifelong learning as well.

Mission Statement

To make a difference for others, as well as to continue to grow as an individual. As an educator, to nurture, in my students, a strong interest in science, develop process skills and intellect as well as instill responsibility, and respect for others and the environment. Within the educational community, to get things done on the local, state and national levels.
